Hayley is working at the hospital in Gordonvale and I'm still teaching Maths and a bit of science at Gordonvale State High school.
Whilst in Cairns, we've mainly been staying at the Barrier Reef Tourist Park. But with Hayley's job came the offer of staying in this house...
...in the hospital grounds for a few weeks. So we jumped at the chance of staying in a place where the bedroom is more than 2 feet away from the toilet and the kitchen. We couldn't believe the amount of space that we had! The first thing we did was tidy the back yard.
The house is right in the centre of Gordonvale, with a terrific view of the 3000 feet high Walshs Pyramid. This is the view from the front gate.
The chimney in the town is from the sugar mill, which will be operating again in July for a few months. There was a carols by candlelight in Gordonvale with Santa who arrived on a motorbike, fire eaters and jugglers. We did sing some carols too though.
The Sunday morning markets in 1-hour away Port Douglas are full of lots of weird and wonderful things. And that's only the stall holders !
On the Atherton Tablelands there is this amaaazing Fig Tree. This one is called a Cathedral Fig tree because of it's huge size. It's believed to be more than 500 years old. The children are climbing on the roots in the next photo on the left. But where???
It's amazing to think that all of that came from the 1 seed.
