Behana Gorge

A fellow maths teacher at Gordonvale State High school recommended Behana Gorge as a place to visit and swim over the weekend. So today, on Sunday 19th October, the boys and I did just that whilst the girls had a restful afternoon at the caravan.

Sign

It's part of the Wooroonooran National Park - don't these places have some great aboriginal names?

On the path

We were expecting to park up and be right by the waterholes. Not the case. The path went on and up and on and up...

...and on...

All the time we could hear the water and it seemed to be getting no nearer. We passed 2 people and a jogger during that time. They all said that it was "just a bit further...".

waterfalls

But it was certainly worth it.

by the waterfall

It started chucking it down as we were about to start swimming. So I guess we had nothing to lose. So in we jumped!

Jumping across the rocks

It was heaps of fun. And then we did the 3km walk back to the car...in about half the time it took to get to the waterhole!

Backpacker

We shall return no doubt. Maybe we'll pick a day when the sun is shining.....

Amazingly, during the entire 4 hours we were away, we only saw 5 other people and a dog. Then it was time to nip home and do a BBQ for tea. Yum !
